CLAT is a 200 mark, 2 hour paper which tests students in 5 areas, namely, English, Mathematics, Logical Reasoning and General Knowledge/ Current Affairs, and Legal Aptitude with negative marking of 0.25. The negative marking does not significantly affect the marks scored by the candidates who made it to the top law schools but the CLAT committee believes it considerably lowers random guess work in the exam. Thus, the students who genuinely prepared and answered sensibly scored higher.
